Interior and exterior use
Obliterating basecoat
Suitable for most surfaces
Use with Graining Tool
Preparation
Ensure the surface to be painted is clean, dry, and free from grease and oil by wiping with a cloth dampened with white spirit. If you are preparing bare wood, sanding will probably be required to obtain a smooth surface - always work with the grain of the wood and ensure you remove dust. If you are varnishing on a previously coated surface, remove any grease and loose/flaking material, then sand as before.
Application
To achieve the most natural wood effect, Blackfriar Back-to-Wood Basecoat should be used alongside your choice of coloured varnish or woodstain, together with a Blackfriar Graining Tool. First apply 1-2 coats of Back-to-Wood Basecoat with a brush and leave it to dry. When it is completely dry, apply a generous even coat of your chosen wood shade varnish, following its application instructions, and use the Graining Tool to create realistic wood effects on the varnished surface.
